We refueled at a gasoline station near Cancun. The attendant was particularly attentive towards Bip Bip: cleaning the windshield and shining the tires (that we had done before). I should have known that something fishy going on. I even prepared a tip customary for the 'extra' service.
Time to pay, I pass over a 500 note and 50. I do not know how he did, but he had to distracted our attention for a moment and traded the 500 peso bill to 50 and then tried to convince us that I had mistakenly given two 50 peso bills and then confidently claimed we owed another 500 pesos?!? Still, in a moment of doubt we almost believed it... except we were running short of cash so checking the wallet confirmed we had given over our last 500 peso bill.
.
Confident in our conviction, Chris convinced the attendant to change his mind using his 'angry vibes' super force....and so the attendant changed his story and asked for the ACTUAL 3 pesos difference. ...
Poor guy, in trying to pocket 500 pesos he lost out on his tip! This is our first obvious attempt at a rip-off in our whole Mexican experience.
ReplyDeleteAh the old bait and switch, glad you caught him!
